April to June: the quiet island
In April the air warms up but the sea stays cool, around 17 °C. May is milder, sometimes windy, and the island still quiet. June is the real start of summer, with the sea above 22 °C. At Villa Mylo these three months are low season, and the main pool can be heated while the sea is still cool.
July and August: high summer
Heat, sunshine and crowds: this is high season, and ferries and accommodation are booked well ahead. The meltemi, a northerly wind blowing mostly in the afternoon, cools the air; it can also roughen the sea on exposed coasts — see the sheltered beaches.
September and October: late season
September keeps the summer without the crowds, with the sea still around 24 °C. In October the air cools, the sea stays pleasant, and some of the island's businesses begin to close.
